This caught my eye at the petrol station of all places. It's a new product (I think) from a local egg farm: shrink wrapped braised egg. Had a good laugh when I looked at the ingridients: egg, soy sauce and spices of non-animal origin. Gee, I didn't know that there are spices of animal origin. Nevertheless, I bought a few instant eggs out of curiosity.
Once home, I talked my mom into sharing an egg. I was expecting a tasteless overcooked egg. True enough, the egg white was rubbery and the egg yolk dry but the soy sauce and spices of non-animal origin did a decent job with the flavouring. Mom and I thought the egg will be quite tasty with instant cup noodles.
The expiry date is September 2005 which means the eggs can last about a year. Maybe I should stock some in case neighbouring countries get hit by bird flu again and Singapore suffers from egg shortage.
Gee... I hv only seen in Taiwan where they packed the Tie Dan just like this. But Singapore only 1 egg, Taiwan Tiedan many eggs.

I would prefer the packaging in Singapore. Can eat slowly one by one. Hmm... next time go to Sin, should look for this to bring back to Japan. Can eat when homesick miss my mama Lu Dan.
Thanks for this info. :) Btw, how much one?

Hi fish fish, now that you have mentioned it, the instant egg is similar to the Taiwan tie dan. It cost 70 cents which is 45 jap yen or $1.60 Malaysian ringgit or USD 40 cents :)

mmm..very suspicious of this product..are they kept in the chiller? I dun think I will be interested in eggs that can last more than a year (except century and salted eggs)..:) Mik

wow shrink wrapped instant eggs! Very good idea. I think students might like it ;-) Maybe the farm produced this to target the bird-flu eggless markets!

Maybe the farm that produced this packaged egg also created the bird-flu....I knew it, it's a conspiracy. How sneaky sneaky

Hi Mik, these eggs are not kept in the chiller. I am not sure if the egg will be edible in a year's time but I am quite sure I will be able to bounce it like a ball.
Hi pinkcocoa,I think students may find the egg a little expensive especially now eggs are back to their normal prices.
Hi Dennis,I hope not and I ate those eggs :P

oh yeah, I never thought about the original price of normal eggs. :p I was just thinking how convenient it was: open and eat!

We have something similar in Korea too, conveniently found in most 7-11s and such.
